Before Surgery (Pre-Op):

  • You will be asked to change into appropriate surgical attire. A locker with a key will be provided for you to secure your belongings.
  • One family member or friend may be permitted to stay with you pre and post operatively.
  • If indicated, you will have an IV started prior to surgery.
  • A board certified Anesthesiologist will see you before surgery to explain the type of anesthesia you will receive, and review any medical problems or allergies you may have encountered in the past.
  • You will be escorted into the operating suite. At this time the surgical nurse will check your ID band and ask you additional questions about your medical history.

During Surgery (Intra-Op):

  • You will be monitored throughout the duration of your surgery by our team of nurses and anesthesiologists.

After your surgery (Post-Op):

  • Following your surgery, you will be escorted to the post anesthesia care unit, where you will be constantly monitored and will remain until you have fully recovered from the effects of the anesthesia.
  • Once you are fully recovered, you will be transferred to a lounge chair to prepare for discharge. Nourishments will be provided.
  • A nurse will review your discharge instructions and answer any questions you, or your family members may have.
  • You will be called at home within 24-48 hours of your surgery by one of our recovery nurses (Friday appointments will be called on Monday).
